1. Cloaking Device

No longer confined simply to the realms of science fiction, British and American scientists have developed a device which can cloak an object against waves (all except light) by absorbing them and sending them back out without any visible change in the waves. Currently light is the one thing the device can't cloak from but the team is working on it and its still a big step forward for technology.

2. Wii

Nintendo's latest console offering is a depature from the norm to say the least, using a motion sensor controller the wii is set to change the way people play video games. While many at first appeared to have their doubts those who have had a chance to play with the console for extended periods of time have no doubt that it'll be a hit. While the graphical power isn't anywhere as good as either the PS3 or Xbox, it is still able to produce better graphics than the current gen of consoles.

3. PS3

Though at the time of writing neither of these have been released both represent huge bounds in technology. The Blu-ray disk player contained within the PS3 is a step forward in technology by using the lower end of the visible spectrum to read disks thus allowing more to be held on one disk. The cell processor too marks a new standard for the coming years (if it works properly).

4. Space Tourism takes off

This is the year when space tourism really started to take off. The first female space tourist went into space (and wants to go again), millionaire entrepenour Richard Branson announced his company Virgin was to offer space tourist flights in the near future and Princess Beatrice of the UK signs up for a near space flight to the edge of the planet itself.
